The first time you login to AWEDU your screen should look somewhat like the picture to the left on this page.  This is the Active Worlds 3-D browser.

Please do two things when you first enter AWEDU:
1. Press the F9 key on your keyboard to bring up the Tabs Window on the left side of the browser.
2. Press the button near the top-left corner of the browser that reads Advanced Mode  and confirm that you want to use advanced mode.

Note for network administrators (please use if you experience problems connecting to the AWEDU)

To use the Active Worlds software from behind a firewall/proxy server you will need to alter the configuration of the firewall/proxy server in order to allow the use of the ports needed by the Active Worlds software.

Connecting to the educational universe server requires an inbound and outbound TCP connection to edu.activeworlds.com on port 5670. Both the browser and the world servers connect to the universe server on this port.

Connecting to the worlds requires an inbound and outbound TCP connection to edu.activeworlds.com on ports 7777 and 7003. For worlds hosted on other machines, most likely the port will be 7777.

Web access to port 80 at a variety of sites is required
for object download, although this can be changed via the browser's proxy configuration. If the browser does not open and allow you to change it via the "settings" tab, you will need to set it up manually.

To manually set up the proxy settings, open the aworld.ini file and add the following proxy ini settings:
[proxy]
address=www.myproxy.com (or whatever)
port=8080 (or whatever)
