Once you have downloaded and installed
AWEDU on your computer, you will be able to access the virtual
environment through a unique 3-D web browser.
To begin exploring AWEDU, simply launch the browser by double-clicking on the
AWEDU icon on your desktop. You can also launch the browser by
clicking on the Windows Start button, selecting Programs, then
going to the AWEDU group and selecting Activeworlds Educational
Universe. When you first download the AWEDU browser you will automatically
be prompted with the login screen below.
To start AWEDU, you must have an active
Internet connection established. After starting the browser, you will first see
a splash screen briefly as the browser is connecting to the system. Once a
connection has been established, this screen will disappear automatically. If
you have trouble getting connected, or receive an error message after starting
Active Worlds, please read the Active Worlds
FAQs. If you cannot find an answer there, contact us
contact@aweduserve.org, and we will be more than happy to help.
At this point, it is possible that there
may be a new version of the browser available. If there is, you will see a
dialog box offering you an upgrade. Unless this is a forced upgrade, you can
choose to accept the new version now or skip the upgrade now and get it later.

You are
able to access the AWEDU environment for free as a Tourist or you can
purchase a citizenship and login as a Citizen of the
AWEDU universe. In time, you will want to consider becoming a
Citizen, but initially you can learn and interact in AWEDU as a Tourist.
When you are interested in becoming a Citizen, just
contact us
and we will help arrange your immigration.
To login simply select a name that you
will recognized by in the environment. Also, you need to include an
email address to login....don't worry, no one will use this email to send
you unsolicited emails and your information will not be given out to
others. Entering any name and email address will allow you to enter (as
long as the name you select isn't being used by another person).
Enter your name and email, then
press the OK button.

Advantages of
becoming an AWEDU citizen
In order to enjoy the privileges of
citizenship in AWEDU, you must register. As a citizen of AWEDU you will have
access to the following additional features and privileges:
- Access to the hundreds of unique and
fascinating virtual worlds in the Active Worlds universe.
- Reserve a unique citizen name for your use only
- Build and own property in any of the many worlds open for building. As a
citizen your property remains under your control and ownership, and cannot by
deleted by other users.
- Send telegrams to other citizens.
- Send files to other citizens.
- Locate and join other citizens anywhere in Active Worlds.
- Maintain a contact list to keep in touch with your friends.
- Choose from the wide variety of avatars available in each world you visit.
